Religious Education (RE)

Christ Church School believes that the principal aim of RE is to explore big questions about life, find out what people believe and what difference this makes to how they live. This allows pupils to make sense of religion, reflecting on their own ideas and ways of living.

Our school benefits from being able to visit a range of places of religious significance and we invite visitors from both the local and school community in to enhance the RE provision.

Through our strong partnership with nearby Christ Church, all children benefit greatly from learning experiences and insights into more challenging Christian concepts offered by the church staff.

RE allows the children to develop an understanding

of themselves, and the beliefs and faith systems of others.

Throughout the RE curriculum an enquiry based approach is a key skill set developed from Early Years to Year 6.

These skills enable the children to investigate, reflect, express and evaluate their learning throughout all units of RE.

At Christ Church we follow the South Gloucestershire Agreed syllabus for Religious Education. This creates flexibility to complement discrete subject teaching with wider learning experiences that are more tailored to the needs of the pupils and community.

Many cross-curricular opportunities are available in the delivery of RE in school e.g. debates, using artefacts, music, visual art, photographs, creative, factual and reflective writing. Children are also encouraged to take part in drama, and utilise skills acquired from elsewhere in the curriculum, such as computing methods for handling data, and creating their own recordings or presentations. This approach supports the children in their personal search for meaning and purpose in life.
