Year 6 - Music and RE

Y6 enjoyed their composition lesson in music this week as they composed a soundtrack to accompany a Wallace and Gromit film. Each group was given a word to represent a different scene and they were tasked with composing a suitable piece. For example, one group was given the word "danger", while another had "chase". The children worked brilliantly in their groups and used graphic score notation to help them remember their compositions, ready to perform alongside the film, next week.
On Tuesday afternoon, Chris Brown from Christ Church, came in to speak to Y6 about Christian funerals. The Y6 RE topic this term looks at what different religions say when life is hard. During the lesson with Chris, the children read the poem "Heaven" by Steve Turner, thought about his interpretation of Heaven and then listened to Chris speak about why funerals can be comforting to Christians. He spoke about the symbolism and format of a funeral and many of the children reflected that the session gave them time to formulate their own thoughts. Thank you Chris for coming in to help us with this topic.
