Welcome to Christ Church C of E Primary School

To ensure that children develop their ability to question and enquire about their place in the world from the local then national and finally a world-wide perspective.

At Christ Church we aim to provide a Geography curriculum which inspires the children’s curiosity and fascination about the world and its people. Our lessons provide children with an understanding of our local environment, our location within Great Britain and the wider world. We seek to support children in developing respect and appreciation of the similarities and differences between cultures from all over the globe whilst also developing the children’s interest and understanding of diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments.

Our intent is that our Geography curriculum provides a progressive development of geographical concepts, knowledge and skills across the school. It also provides children with the skills of interpreting a range of sources of geographical information, including maps, diagrams and Geographical Information Systems (GIS).  We strive to create a supportive and collaborative ethos for learning by providing investigative and enquiry-based learning opportunities.

At Christ Church we believe that learning is most meaningful to the children when they are able to make links between subjects and explore themes in depth. We provide children with many opportunities to use a range of geographical skills to help them understand and analyse a range of information either collaboratively or as an individual and seek to establish cross curricular links to other subjects such as; Literacy, Maths, French, Science, History and Computing.

We also aim to draw links through our Geography curriculum to our ‘Healthy School, Healthy Planet’ whole school initiative by providing opportunities for pupils to develop their understanding of the environment and sustainable development throughout the school, focusing on the human aspect of Geography.

At Christ Church we provide a variety of opportunities for geography learning inside and outside the classroom including fieldwork in our outdoor classroom. The children have had many opportunities to experience geography on educational visits. The children have explored the local area including orienteering within the school grounds, conducting river studies and using map reading skills during residential trips.
