Happy New Year!

Everyone made a calm and settled start to the new term after the festive period.  Even though it was a short week Reception were still offered many exciting and full learning opportunities!

The children explored the 'signs of winter' - finding out about seasonal changes, animals who hibernate and what people do in winter.  Outside they were able to explore  ice using different tools to chip out the nature frozen inside.  They listened to the stories 'The Snowflake' by Benji Davies and 'Snowball' by Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet which inspired them to make their own snowflakes out of paper and cotton buds. 

The biggest surprise was a visit from Firefighter Dave who  gave a talk about fire safety and then let six, lucky children to dress up in his firefighter gear!!  The children listened so well and asked very sensible questions. Well done Reception for your enthusiasm during a short yet jam- packed few days!!
