Reception have enjoyed celebrating Black history month and National Poetry Day this week. We have learnt about celebrating differences and including others with the story of ‘ The Smeds and The Smoos’ by Julia Donaldson. We then listened to Cbeebies Bedtime Stories to hear all about Floella Benjamin’s story ‘Coming to England’. We have loved hearing Autumn themed poems too! Our school value of kindness has been a key focus again. We loved reading ‘Room on the Broom’ by Julia Donaldson and ‘Dogger’ by Shirley Hughes and thinking about how the characters had been kind.  The teachers have been keeping their eyes peeled to spot acts of kindness in our classrooms to be displayed on our kindness hearts…it has been wonderful to observe the lovely things the children do for each other every day! In maths we have been investigating different ways of making and representing  1, 2 and 3. We also had lots of fun with a number hunt! The children have been working hard in phonics and learnt 4 new phonemes ‘g’, ‘o’, ‘c’ and ‘k’.
