Year 5 - Sculptures of Giacometti

This week in our Art lesson, we learned about the Swiss sculptor Alberto Giacometti, best known for his elongated sculptures of the human form. We found out that his sculptures are meant to be a representation of a subject’s shadow, rather than a person (a shadow can look like a long, stretched version of the human body). Inspired by his work, we created sculptures using tin foil. In our RE lesson, we discussed Christian ideas about love and found out that Christians believe the love of God is the greatest treasure; giving your life for others is the greatest love; in the end, love wins and death will be destroyed. We created poems about love. During Literacy lessons, we enjoyed writing a detailed description of our own Lost Thing. We read our description to our Talk Partner, who had to draw the Lost Thing we described. Did our partner’s drawing match up to our description? It was fun discussing why or why not.
