Hip Hip Hooray for our Sports Day. We had such fun and really enjoyed having spectators- what a wonderful event for our school community at the end of our school year! The children were exemplary and a pleasure for the school adults to be with (particularly on such a hot morning).
Thank you very much to Mr Campbell and Miss Barsby for the slick organisation of the event and the whole staff team for supporting and preparing the children so well. Everyone has received a Christ Church CE Primary Sports day 2022 medal for their brilliant participation and enjoyed an ice lolly to cool off.
Clifton College are always so supportive of our Sports day which is much appreciated.
It was a miraculous clear up by our wonderful PTA, who packed up the kit to take straight to Campfest. Hope everyone has a super time in the sunshine.
Year 6 are off to Kilve Court on Monday for their residential camp. We will look forward to sharing with you what they are getting up to next week.

Reception – letting them go to spread their wings!
It was an exciting beginning to the week with the release of the class butterflies! It was decided to let them go near to the lavender plants outside Year 2 where they could enjoy themselves and their newfound freedom.
It wasn’t only the butterflies who found their wings, Reception also got to meet their new teachers in Year one during their shuffle up session. The children were really keen and impressed their adults with their great behaviour and endless enthusiasm.
Reception continued their learning both inside and out about ‘Under the sea’. They loved exploring the sea creatures in their water play and learning fun, fishy songs! Watch this space! In maths the children were challenged to draw their own maps showing their journey to school and to design and build mazes to solve. Some great thinking skills and spatial awareness was required for this physical and mental task.
As ever we are really impressed with all the children in Reception who have fully embraced the lead up to their first Sports Day and we know they will make you all very proud too!
Year 1 Andy Goldsworthy and Sports Day
This week in Year 1 we have been learning to tell the time using analog clocks. We built a clock, told the time to the hour, and told the time to the half hour. In Art, we continued to create pieces based on the work of Andy Goldsworthy. In literacy, we wrote summer poems to celebrate this fantastic season that we're currently living, using powerful adjectives to describe all of our favourite aspects of the summer. And of course, the week culminated with our fantastic sports day, where the qualities of fair play and trying your best were on show for all to see!
Our week started by saying farewell to some new members of Year 2 – our butterflies! We have loved watching them grow from tiny caterpillars, forming their chrysalides and then metamorphising into beautiful butterflies. We let them go by the lavender which we thought they would enjoy!
Year 2 have had an exciting week planning stories about miniature versions of themselves going for an adventure in the great outdoors. The week started by taking cut-out photos of themselves outside and describing what it would be like to really be that small. We can’t wait to write the stories next week about their adventures.
We have also be learning about animation. Our first lesson involved creating a flip book and watching our picture move across the page. We then progressed to using iPads and used a website to create short animations. We’re looking forward to making our own animations next week.
How this year has flown by! Year 3 are certainly ready to move up to Year 4; they have grown in height and maturity and learnt many new things. They can be really proud of how far they have come.
This week, the children have been adding the finishing touches onto their fantastic ice-cream sculptures, which look tasty enough to eat now. They designed intricate sprinkles and chose their favourite ice-cream flavour, before painting it and putting it all together. Thanks to Mrs Raignault and Mrs Connolly Tayler for all of their amazing support; it’s been a big project!
This week Year 4 received an important message from Agent H which was persuading spies to come and join his mission to defeat the evil mastermind, Dr Dodgey. To counteract Agent H's recruitment campaign, Year 4 wrote persuasive scripts for Dr Dodgey. They used a green screen and iMovie, to create short videos designed to recruit minions on Dr Dodgey's evil!
Year 5 - Nrich Live and Windrush
This week Year 5 took participated in a 'Nrich Live' national student webinar. The children were encouraged to think mathematically in order to solve problems and puzzles. The children did brilliantly and got joint top score for the main puzzle!
History saw us thinking in more depth about the impact of people who migrate to Britain and we focused in particular on the Windrush generation. On Tuesday we had an amazing workshop from Richard and Leah who are part of the St Paul’s Carnival education team thinking about how St Paul’s Carnival celebrates those who migrated from the Caribbean. We learnt about the cultural legacy which the carnival celebrates and we even had a go at some festival dance moves!
In Science this week, we have been looking in depth at the development of humans and thought about the different life cycle stages humans go through from fertilisation to old age.
Year 6 - Freedog and ZaZaBazaar
Year 6 had a great time on Monday. They went via train from Clifton Down to Temple Meads, walked to Freedog (where they exerted a LOT of energy!) and then walked to ZaZaBazaar (where they ate a LOT of food!) They met Imogen at Clifton Down station, who works for Platform. She came in to school a few weeks ago and gave a really informative workshop about travelling by rail. While Y6 were waiting for their train on Monday, she quizzed them to see how much they had remembered and was suitably impressed by their learning. The children got on and off the train remarkably quickly and their legs took them everywhere else. They walked a long way and did a brilliant job of representing Christ Church whilst they were out. Well done Year 6.
Year 6 loved receiving their hoodies this week. They are so excited for CAMP!
