Time flies when you are having fun! The shorter week has whizzed by in school. We are excited that our Summer term trips to Beggar Bush activity centre start on Monday. Year 3 are the first-year group to go. Please see the dates below for your child’s turn. The team at Beggar Bush put together a bespoke programme for us matched to the age of the children. The coaches are paid for by our PTA and Clifton College keep the cost to us to a minimum. In order for your children to go on the trip, the school office will send a link to a Google form in order for parents/carers to provide your consent and make your voluntary contribution. Please do this in good time to prevent our office team having to chase for this. These trips have become a Summer term Christ Church School tradition which the children really enjoy. Each week in our newsletter we will share a report from Beggar Bush.
Next week, our Year 6 children will be participating in the National assessments for the first time since 2019. The children have been working hard with a positive mindset and we wish them well for next week. All year 6 children are welcome to attend a SATs breakfast from 8am on Monday-Thursday. Please enter via the main school entrance.

It's been another busy week in Reception! We have continued our focus on the story of 'The Naughty Bus' by Jan and Jerry Oke by writing all about the journey the bus takes. We have also loved looking at old and new forms of transport, thinking carefully about their differences.
We've enjoyed stretching and relaxing in our yoga class with Carolyn and had lots of fun learning about how Muslims prepare for and celebrate Eid. In maths, we've been looking at 11-20 through ordering and composition of these numbers.
This term in Science Year 1 are learning all about plants. To start our new topic we looked closely at variety of seeds of bulbs and drew careful sketches of them. We then thought about what they might grow into and wrote questions that we would like answered during our topic. We also planted our own nasturtium seeds. We are watering them each day and looking forward to watching them grow!
Year 2 - Musical instruments tell stories
This week the children in Year 2 have been introduced to our new Power of Reading book, The Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munsch. They have thought carefully about how Princess Elizabeth would have felt about rescuing Prince Ronald from the fire-breathing dragon and written a diary entry about it.
In Maths we have discussed the importance of being able to give clear directions using the correct vocabulary. Sometimes we get our left and right a little mixed up but we are getting much better! We are using our previous coding skills to help us with this.
We are continuing to learn more about Florence Nightingale and how her approaches to nursing changed hospitals for the better forever. Thank you Florence Nightingale!
In music we are using instruments to tell the story of different characters. We definitely have a number of musical directors for the future film industry in our midst!
What a busy week! On top of this, the children have started completing their ‘activity booklets’ to support our Year 2 assessments. Well done Year 2!
Year 3 - The natural boot, and healthy diets
How has another week flown by already?! Even in this short week year 3 have got through so much learning. In English we looked into advertising and created our own range of all natural boots for the Robot in our story. By looking at successful advertising that the children have witnessed, we were able to generate some extremely persuasive language, slogans and design features. The range of boots were incredible and even the teachers were tempted to make a purchase!
We have continued with our ‘animals including humans’ learning in Science. This included what a healthy diet looks like for humans are the 5 main food groups. We went shopping for food and tried to sort our foods into these food groups. From this we created our perfect balanced meal!
With the weather improving, we are thoroughly excited to be going on out first trip to Beggar Bush on Monday! Stay tuned for the fun and frolics of next week ?
This week Year 4 have been learning about still life. We started by focusing on the work of Paul Cezanne and used his paintings to inspire us with our own still life compositions. Over the week, we used different artistic mediums to draw fruit and learnt how to shade using pencil. All the children produced a final piece and were able to carefully observe the objects in front of them.
After an incredible time at Kilve Court, Literacy this week has seen year 5 planning and writing a recount about camp and poetry focusing on our emotions during one of the activities. The children loved recapping their time away and have done a brilliant job bringing their experiences to life.
In Numeracy, we have continued our learning about decimals and have focused on adding and subtracting decimals with the same and different numbers of decimal places. It has been great to see some real world maths taking place especially during our problem solving activities.
Our computing lessons this term are linked to the Mars Rover again and this week’s lesson saw us looking at how images are created using pixels. We learnt about how images are transferred from spacecrafts to scientists on earth using binary code before being turned back into the pixels we can see to recreate the images. We had a go at creating our own space pixel artwork using square paper before transferring this to Microsoft Excel.
This week in Art we began work towards an installation that will be displayed at the M Shed this June. We are helping towards the installation by making a shoal of fish made from the old Bristol Pounds.
The inspiration for the project is this quote:
“When the last tree has been cut down,
the last fish caught, the last river poisoned,
only then will we realize that one cannot eat money.”

Year 6 - Country names in French
In French this week, Y6 have been busy learning country names so that they can use them when discussing holidays. They matched the country names to flags and then competed in teams to say the country in French and English. It was a very close match, with all the children trying incredibly hard with their pronunciation and doing a really good job. The children ended the lesson by writing sentences about their plans for the summer holiday. We were so impressed with their writing in French! Well done Year 6.
Year 6 fundraising:
Year 6 have been busy raising money for their end of year activities by selling home grown plants in the playground this week.
They have shown real maturity in organising, running and tidying up the stall in the mornings and after school.
Thank you to all of the parents who took time to grow and provide plants to sell.
Last week, our athletics team went along to the Wesport County Finals held at UWE to compete against 12 other schools in a mixture of track at field events. Our children performed fantastically, and even secured a couple of first place individual scores (no mean feat when considering that there were over 200 children at the event). Overall, we were unlucky to not place in the top 3 podium spots, but we did have a fantastic day out - with lots of smiles all round
