- Happy Easter!
What a delight our Easter Service was yesterday, a real celebration of hope and new beginnings as well as a reflection of on-going difficult times. The children’s singing and poems were both joyful and moving. The theme of the songs valued the strength we can gain from each other as well as from our beliefs. Thank you to Mrs Brown, Mrs Duquemin and Mr Campbell and our staff team for preparing the children.
Our Reception children looked so cheerful in their Easter bonnets; we hope you enjoyed making them at home and enjoy wearing them over Easter.
Well done to our Year 6 narrators; Freddie, Noah, Clover and Flissy who with humour told us about the Easter Story and the meaning of the tradition of hot cross buns and chocolate eggs.
A big thank you to our Church for a warm welcome and hospitality. Rev Chris Brown led our service and a team of volunteers provided coffee and hot cross buns. Thank you also to the parents who stayed to help with the chairs after the service. Sadly, Pastor Ruthy and Rev Paul Langham were unable to attend, we send them both our good wishes.
There are many festivals being observed by families in our community this month. For more information about some of these religious festivals please take a look at

We wish everyone a Happy Easter and hope you have a good break.
Thank you to our PTA for such an enjoyable children’s disco last Friday. The children had such a fantastic time, the efforts of the team of parents/carers who supported the event were much appreciated.
April showers didn’t deter the children and adults from the challenge of the Easter Egg hunt. Lots of happy children and relieved adults completed the trail to help Year 6 raise funds towards their end of year activities. Thank you to the organising team for arranging this for us.

Easter Service 2022 Highlights:
The Christ Church Circuit returned this morning to end a busy Term 4. The challenge is simple; ten minutes to run as many laps of the school as possible. It was lovely to hear the athletes sharing their accomplishments, even comparing what they achieved last time. The Circuit will return in the summer terms. Have a look at the sped-up video montage - see if you can spot yourself.
After a very successful visit from The Yellow Lighted Bookshop we have £500 commission that can be spent on books for our classroom bookshelves. Thank you to everyone for your support with the event. Each class has a Wishlist and this will allow us to buy some of these book choices. We are still welcoming any donations via ParentPay for the classroom bookshelves. Thank you to all the families that have already donated the books we buy will all have a book plate to show your donation has been made.
Spring clean!
We are very short on reading scheme books so over the Easter break please have a look to see if you have any of our school books to return. Each book costs approx. £4 a book and we cannot keep replacing missing books. Your support with this is greatly appreciated.

Reception Eggsellent Easter Exploration
We have had another fun week in reception. We have enjoyed learning all about Easter and the Easter traditions. We enjoyed going to the cookery room for the first time to make Easter nests. Bonnie very kindly bought some eggs and sequins for us to all design our own eggs, we enjoyed counting out 10 gems and 10 sequins to decorate them. The Easter bunny left some tricky word eggs and hid them in our classrooms. We enjoyed hunting for them and ticking them off our list. We had 18 words to find and read in total. We have been working really hard with our phonics and been using our sounds to write our Easter cards and to write lists. We have had such a fun week and made our teachers really proud of what we achieved in term 4.
Year 1 Show and Tell Measuring
Year 1 have really impressed us with their wonderful show and tell ideas all about the seasons this term. We have seen stop motion spring animations, wonderful artwork and models and videos of spring animals. In Maths this week Year 1 have continued learning about measure. First we learned to measure using cubes and then used rulers to measure length and height in centimetres. Of course we have been busy practising our spring poem for the Easter service and we were so proud of Year 1’s performance. Well done for all your hard work this term Year 1!
Year 2 - Apollo 11 and the Explorer Dome
The week started with a Big Write to round up our knowledge on the Apollo 11 mission. The children worked hard over two days to produce a substantial newspaper report using quotes and a captivating headline. There were squeals of delight when the children saw the Explorer Dome. The children sat under the stars and listened to myths and legends about constellations. Their knowledge of nebulas and supernovae amazed the adults so much, at times they felt as though they were teaching the ALevel curriculum!
In maths, Year 2 have started to learn about time. These lessons will continue after the Easter break, so we were very impressed to see lots wearing analogue watches and talking about the time with their friends. It's safe to say we all know when it's time for lunch!
In RE, the children retold the Easter story and identified important dates in the Christian calendar. After sitting beautifully in the church for their performance, Year 2 had an egg-citing afternoon making their Easter cards! They had to work methodically to put the different components together and used beautiful cursive letters to write special messages to their friends and families.
The children have made fantastic progress this term and we can't wait to see them again after a well-deserved rest!
Year 2 Le bonhomme de pain d’épice
Year 2 Retelling the story: Le bonhomme de pain d’épice (The gingerbread man):
This week, as a whole class Year 2 children had fun retelling and miming the story they studied this term: They learnt to say in French the names of the animals of the story (le chat – cat, le chien - dog, la vache – cow, le cheval – horse, le coq – cockerel, le cochon – pig, le renard - fox). Then, they enjoyed colouring in a summary sheet of the story which they took home to show their parents.
Year 3 Lots of Maths and then Easter
The final week of term 4 has ended with a bang! In maths this week we decided to get hands on. We have been counting in tenths and worked on a carousel of activities to cement our learning. We learnt to count tenths in fractions and decimals and showed this through a range of activities.
As Easter is just around the corner, we had fun making Easter baskets, hoping that the Easter Bunny might spot them and reward our amazing learning this term.
For those of you lucky enough to come to the Easter service at Christ Church, you would have seen how hard year 3 have worked on their musical rendition of ‘Oh Happy Day!’. With many key changes, harmonies and changing rhythms, year 3 had their work cut out but WOW it blew us all away and we cannot tell you how proud we are. Go year 3!
Year 3 Ours Brun dis moi ce que tu vois?
In French this term, Year 3 children have enjoyed retelling the story ‘Ours Brun dis moi ce que tu vois?’ (Brown Bear, what do you see?). Their task this week was to do a word hunt outside. With a clipboard and a worksheet, they had fun recognising the French words, match them with the 9 Flashcards hidden around the playground and draw the images. They also had to identify the colours in French and colour in the animals accordingly. The 9 words were the names of the animals from the story.
It may be the last week of term, but that hasn't stopped Year 4! Not only have we finished our amazing non-chronological reports about the threats to the Amazon Rainforest, we've also been busy learning about simple circuits and electricity in D.T. and Science. On Thursday we designed a torch and today we created our very own torches. In P.E., we've been impressed by everyone's efforts in tag rugby and their healthy competition towards our final matches. It's certainly not easy throwing and catching a rugby ball and throwing backwards, but everyone made excellent progress.
Well done for a fantastic term Year 4, you deserve a well-earned break.
By Hal and Kitty:
For our first science lesson this week we were learning about thermal insulators. We drew a graph and sorted every-day items into them. A fellow classmate Poppy said, "They were very interesting and I learned a lot."
In our second lesson, we identified and compared soluble and insoluble objects. We put: gravy granules, flour, lentils, salt, marshmallows, coffee, and sugar into a cup full of water to see which was soluble or insoluble. "It was fun seeing what was soluble or insoluble using food!"
By Annie and Sophia:
In another lesson we classified materials by their properties, for example, a metal spoon was rigid and waterproof; a cardboard egg box was rigid and absorbent. We sorted items into a Caroll diagram. On Thursday we experimented on how to separate mixtures such as separating sand and water; raisins and flour; paper clips and rice and salt and water. We explained how the process separates the materials and why it is most suitable.
Esme said, “Experimenting this week has been really fun.”
Xin Yue said, “I really enjoyed it, I really like using the magnet to separate the paperclips and rice.”
In today’s lesson, we found out about something new – reversible and irreversible changes. I really enjoyed doing the experiment with vinegar and bicarbonate of soda and the balloon. This was an irreversible change.
Milo said, “I found it fun finding out about the reversible change of chocolate changing from a solid to a liquid to a solid again.”
Year 6 got arty this week as a little break from their Sats revision.
James, professional potter and teacher, came in to help them create their African mask designs in 3 D. They used various techniques to bring to life their chosen masks and will paint and decorate them in acrylic paint next term.
Queen's Jubilee Art Competition Tea Party
On Tuesday, the sun was out and the art ambassadors hosted their garden party for all those that entered the Platinum Jubilee art competition. A lovely afternoon in which approximately 70 children attended. Well done to all our fabulous artists - it was great to celebrate together!
On Saturday morning, our previous Cross Country runners took part in the country finals helping to support our South Bristol Team. They did brilliantly - we are really proud of them.
