Fortunately the sun has returned as we approach the end of week 7. This weekend has the bank holiday Friday to commemorate the end of the war in Europe. VE day. A poem written by Angela Wybrow, provides a summary of what it might have been like on VE day on 8th May 1945. Our homelearning page provides some suggested VE day activities and resources.

You may have family members who can remember the celebrations on VE day. This photo is the closest I could find of Clifton showing the celebrations.

Whilst the end of the war was a cause for celebration it was also a time of enormous sadness as so many loved ones had died. Below is prayer and a link to a film of 65 Church representatives singing ‘The Blessing.’ It is a time to reflect and give thanks for our families especially in our current circumstances and remember those we have lost, then and now.
Prayers for VE Day From the Act of Commitment for Peace
Let us pledge ourselves anew to the service of God and our fellow men and women: that we may help, encourage and comfort others, and support those working for the relief of the needy and for the peace and welfare of the nations.
Lord God our Father,
we pledge ourselves to serve you and all humankind in the cause of peace,
for the relief of want and suffering,
and for the praise of your name.
Guide us by your Spirit;
give us wisdom;
give us courage;
give us hope;
and keep us faithful now and always.
Amen.
The school adults have written an informal chatty letter to each of their classes to let the children (and parents) know that we are all thinking of you. You should receive these via email. Please share them with your children; they are intended as informal catch up of news to share. Please do encourage your children to write back via the school email address and tell us how you are getting on at home.
On Sunday 10th May, the Government is broadcasting an outline plan for an ‘easing’ of lockdown. At this time we do not know how detailed this will be regarding the potential re-opening of schools. Bristol City Council are also in regular communication with our City’s schools. Please be reassured whatever the announcement may bring we will communicate to our school community the information we receive and our response to it.
