Happy 2022!
I’m sure we are all full of hope for what this year may bring. It was great to welcome everyone back on Wednesday. I would like to thank everyone for their co-operation and there was a shared sense of relief as we opened our classroom doors.
At the moment our attendance is very good but we all know that can change very quickly so please, as per my letter dated 4th January, ensure that you have kept the school office updated of any new telephone numbers for your child’s three named contacts as we may need you to collect your child from school during the day. Also, please check Szapp in the morning before school in case overnight information is shared.
We are really looking forward to the term ahead with lots of enriched learning opportunities. We have both workshops and visitors coming into school to give our children first hand experiences. Later in the term Jane and Tim will return to run Forest School sessions for every class and we hope to have a visiting book fair.
Curriculum newsletters for this term have been added to the Class pages of Google Classroom as well as Spellings for the term.
Homelearning
In the event that your child has to remain at home due to a positive test result, please find a homelearning provision on Google Classroom. Each Friday a timetable for the following week will be posted. Parents/Carers should use this if they wish to support learning at home during the period of isolation. In the event a whole class are required to stay at home the timetable provision will be more detailed and also daily Google meets will be scheduled for live interaction with the class teacher and peers. For more information please read the letter which will follow on Monday.

Reception Blending and One Less game
Happy New Year to you all! Reception have returned excited for the term ahead and have really enjoyed sharing their holiday news with us and their talk partners. They have all really enjoyed playing with their friends again, exploring the indoor and outdoor areas and getting back into school routines. The children have been finding one less in maths and using our knowledge of sounds to blend and read words by ourselves! They are really looking forward to finding out about the changes in the weather, the season of Winter and we will be continuing to practise our ‘waddle’ as we might need to find out more about certain animals that move this way… Watch this space!!
T3 looks to be another fun filled term of learning!
This term Year 1 are looking forward to learning all about the African savannah through our new story ‘One Day on our Blue Planet: In the Savannah’ by Ella Bailey. Before discovering the new topic, Year 1 listened to the sounds of the savannah and drew where we thought the story might be set. Then we listened to the story and wrote about what you can see at sunrise in the savannah.
Welcome back year 2! We hope you have enjoyed your Christmas holidays. This week, we have been thinking about our New Year’s resolutions and what we’d all like to get better at this year. In maths, we have dived into multiplication, through the exploration of making groups with counters.
This term, we are excited to read and delve into our new book, ‘Anna Hibiscus’. Linked to the story, Year 2 will be exploring African culture with the beautiful animals, clothes and traditions. We are hoping to meet some knowledgeable visitors linked to our topic and make our very own traditional food. We are also going to be launching into a new coding programme to develop our ICT skills and learn all about Judaism in RE. Not to forget, our dance festival appearance in February. More information to follow.
Welcome to 2022! We are back and raring to go in Year 3. Even with a 3 day week, we have managed to squeeze in a lot. This term we will be focusing more on ‘reading for pleasure’ and with this is mind we took a visit to the school library to explore what was on offer. Everyone found a book they were interested in and we took some back to our classroom to explore further!
We have also hit the ground running with multiplying and dividing. Revising where we left off last term and year 3 managed to retain so much after a long busy holiday- well done!
This term is going to be another full and exciting one. Starting with a Stone Age visitor holding a workshop for us next week. So keep checking the newsletter for updates on all of the exciting things to come.
Year 4 have had an amazing start to Term 3 with a very special visit from Lucas Jet, a talented circus performer and entertainer. The day began with a performance from Lucas where he showcased his top tricks and some of us went up on stage with him to participate in daring acts. Afterwards, we all had a go at balancing peacock feathers, spinning plates, juggling, flower sticks and the diablo. It was hard work learning so many new skills so we had to be super resilient. In the afternoon, we practised our favourite circus skill and then choreographed our very own circus performance - it was spectacular!
Year 5 Gymnastics and Hockney Landscapes
Having brushed off the previous week's festivities, Year 5 got straight back into their stride and smashed into Term 3 with gusto! This term we'll be harnessing our gymnastic skills (see photo - Team GB watch out!) during our indoor PE. In Art we will be studying the work of British artist David Hockney to create paintings inspired by his work. This week we enjoyed the freedom of using our sketchbooks to collect information exploring his life and work.
In PSHE we've been discussing our hopes and dreams for this term. Both classes were able to hold mature and fruitful conversations. This week we reflected on the things we were grateful for in 2021 and listed the best things that happened. We found out that the first people to make New Year resolutions were the Babylonians who lived 4,000 years ago. We were inspired by Greta Thunberg who is reported to have said, 'The moment we decide to fulfil something, we can do anything.' As a class, we reflected on our goals for this year and any New Year resolutions we might make. As Albert Einstein said, '..in the middle of difficulty lies opportunity!'
Year 6 ‘There’s a boy in the Girls’ Bathroom'
Year 6 are straight into their Literacy learning this week as they design alternative titles and covers for our new book- ‘There’s a boy in the Girls’ Bathroom.’
They were full of amazing ideas and suggestions about where the story may be heading and what it is about…watch this space.
"Happy New Year from the PTA. Our best wishes for this year 2022!
Watch this space for our upcoming events."
