Term 1 Thank You
As we reach half term and reflect upon the first term of our new school year there is much to be thankful for. We have been back together as a school community with lots to celebrate as we have shared in our weekly newsletters. Everyone has played their part in order for us to safely and calmly open our school. In fact we got to the final week before our Year 6 adults and children were required to isolate. Well done Year 6 with your 4 days of home learning, we look forward to your return after half term.
The children have been brilliant at adapting to the new routines and timetables and this has all been facilitated by our incredible staff team who have shown amazing resilience, dedication and fortitude to provide a wonderful term and I thank them for this. Parents/carers thank you too for your understanding and support at this difficult time. We hope you have a good half term enjoying whatever you are able to do…
It has been really important for us, as best we can, to maintain our school ethos and values whilst we are in our year group bubbles. Mr Campbell has kept us all connected with assemblies and celebrations and endeavoured to get everyone set up and using Google Classroom.
As a Primary school we love our whole school projects and we are keen to keep these going so we can share learning throughout our school. Mrs Richardson discovered a national initiative using the book, ‘Here we are, notes for living on planet Earth by Oliver Jeffers and every class has been inspired by the message within it. We have put together a presentation to share with everyone in order that you can see what we have been doing. Please read the summary of what each year group achieved and enjoy the slide show. The work is delightful and we will share photos of our displays at the start of term 2.
We have been keeping up to date with guidance about singing and have today taken each year group into our school hall to record their Harvest song. We hope to share these with you at the start of term 2-hopefully you may have heard the songs at home. Rev. Paul Langham has recorded a message that we will share along with our singing.
A big thank you for the donations of food to contribute to the Foodbank, it will be much appreciated.
Our Reception children have settled in really well to our school and are confidently participating in their learning. We just need to ensure that pick up and drop off times in the Reception outside area remain safe for everyone. (Separate letter sent to Reception parents/carers regarding term 2 arrangements).
Thank you to our PTA who are discussing ways to raise funds for our school as well as providing some social events for our community.
From the PTA:
Thanks for all the ideas we have been sent for COVID friendly events. Please keep your eye out for details of our first PTA Zoom meeting after half term when you will be able to find out more. We are still looking for a few more class reps, if you are interested please email firstname.lastname@example.org
Please continue to be vigilant regarding self-isolating and seeking a test as per the Government guidance. Children must not return at the start of term 2 if you are still in a period of isolation. If anyone in your household receives a positive test result during half term please use the following number 07342081168 to notify us.
This is a film about why hand hygiene is so important.
Reception have been learning all about measure this week. They particularly enjoyed finding out which fruit and vegetables were heavy or light by using a simple pan balance. They have also been using their brilliant knowledge of sounds to blend words on the interactive whiteboard. Well done Reception!
In Year 2 we have been learning about adaptation. We have researched the different ways animals have adapted in order to survive in their habitats. We used our comprehension skills to read the facts and report back to others what we had learned.
This week, Year 2 children had a lot of fun learning 6 new words about Halloween in French. They mimed and said the new words before creating a display with their beautiful colourings. Bravo Year 2!
This week we want to celebrate how hard Year 3 have worked this term. Their positive energy has never faulted and they have thrown themselves into every single part of their learning. This week they have been publishing their innovated ’Into the Forest’ stories and they have have been so focused you could hear a pin drop. Have a well deserved break and may this incredible start continue!
To learn about Black History Month, we spent time celebrating different heroes and their achievements. We all enjoyed listening and learning about Aretha Franklin and listening to her song R.E.S.P.E.C.T. and thinking about what 'Respect' means to us all. Well done to all the children who chose to do presentations and discuss books they have been reading about black history.
To round up our History unit on 'The Roman Empire and its impact on Britain', Year 4 have been busy this week making chariots fit for racing in Circus Maximus! The children thought carefully about their designs and their finished products were decorative and unique. Well done
This week in French, Year 4 really enjoyed learning to use the bilingual dictionary to look for French and English words on the theme of Halloween. They then were keen to complete a crossword with the French words. They can be very proud of themselves as they acquired a new skill!
In our science lesson we thought about what is in the solar system. We learnt the names of the planets, as well as the order in which they occur (starting with the Sun). We also learnt about how far away the planets are from the Sun. We made a model of the solar system to help us remember the names of the planets and their order.
Here are some photos of us making our mobiles:
Christ Church are proud to introduce you to our new School Council of 2020/2021. The children proudly received their School Council badges this week. Year 6 children and the Year 6 Reception representatives will receive their badges once they are back in school next term. Alongside their class teachers, the children and their classmates completed a Pupil Voice Questionnaire for their first School Council task this week. Mrs Castle can’t wait to begin socially distanced meetings next term. Watch this space to find out more about what they are getting up to throughout the year.
