During lockdown we shared a link to an online version of The Book of Hopes, a compilation from over 100 children’s authors and illustrators. It is now available in hardback and proceeds from the sale of the book will be given to NHS Charities together. Below is a poem from the book. We will be exploring the book further over the weeks ahead.

It is also the Bath Children’s Literature Festival called Reading is Magic Festival 2020: All events are now available to watch on demand until 31 December 2020! https://bathfestivals.org.uk/childrens-literature/
‘Say Something Nice’ By A.F. Harrold
Every now and again, Say something nice.
Say it to a friend.
Say it to a teacher.
Say it to your sister,
Or brother,
Your father or mother.
Say something nice like:
You remind me of flowers.
Or your hair is like fresh bread. Or I like sausages. Or you’re better than asparagus. Or I like you more than Simon.
Just say something nice to make them feel good.
The world is sometimes grey and things go wrong but a kind word, and a smile can turn it back around.
Say something nice like:
That wasn’t a very good poem. But I liked it when it stopped.
Parent / Carer telephone calls
The class teachers have sent slips via book bags confirming the evening that parents/carers will receive a call. Please understand that we cannot give precise times. If you miss their call the teachers will try again later or arrange the next day to call at another time. Please do not phone the school office to say you have missed a call.
For the safety of our children it is not acceptable to park or stop at the entrances to our school grounds. Someone most likely a child will be injured by the inconsiderate driving that has been noticed by parents and carers. Please be considerate and park away from our school site in order that our children can walk to school safely and cross the road with clear visibility.
On the mornings of Saturday 17th October and Saturday 7th November we will be providing an opportunity for Parents/Carers of children starting school in September 2021 to have a self-guided walk through our school building and grounds. Time slots for the visit will be allocated by contacting our school office, or through the booking form on SZapp/ new school website. This year children are not able to attend for these visits and places are limited to 2 adults per child. Please let anyone know who may be interested in this opportunity.
We have been creating a new school website linked to the platform that hosts Szapp so the two will be linked. Please do take a look - https://www.christchurch.bristol.sch.uk/

Bath's Children's Literature Festival
The Bath children's literature festival had to be cancelled this year due to COVID-19 but many of the authors and illustrators wanted to ensure you could continue enjoying the festival at home. We wanted to share the link for the Reading is Magical Festival that is all online for the rest of October.
Information about this has been shared on Google classroom. Please do have a look there are some great authors and illustrators sharing their fantastic work.
In Literacy this week we have continued our lessons on ‘The Matchbox Diary’ by Paul Fleischman. On Wednesday we enjoyed responding to the text by creating charcoal drawings of a storm at sea. We then worked in groups completing dramatisations of scenes, performing poetry and using charcoal to sketch a stormy sea image whilst listening to sound clips of waves. Here are a few photos of our fantastic teamwork and output. Their imagination as well as their collaboration was really fantastic.
This week year 3 have had a busy week! We have looked at Oliver Jeffers book ‘Here we are’ and were inspired to create space themed artwork. We discussed how lucky we are to have for such special people in such a vast universe!
Also, after many weeks of flooding and observing we were able to harvest our river Nile crops. This was a lot of fun and really helped us understand the Ancient Egyptian way of life.
Year 2 have been learning all about endangered animals and how to protect them.
We chose to sketch and paint our chosen animal using watercolours. We experimented with light and dark shades of colour to add a splash of realism to our pictures. We are very proud of our finished pieces. We believe that if you look closely enough they might come to life!
Year 1 have loved looking at the story ‘Here We Are’ by Oliver Jeffers. We discussed our favourite things about living on Earth and wrote about all the wonderful things there are to see and do here! Then we created pictures of space using wax-resist and watercolours.
This week in Reception we have been looking at the story ‘Here we Are’ by Oliver Jeffers. We have had lots of fun creating starry, wax resist paintings using brusho dye.
It has also inspired us to think carefully about how we can look after our wonderful world together and we have written messages to the world – look out for our future display.
Welcome back to school everyone, and welcome to all children and parents who are new to the Christ Church community.
Normally at this time of year the PTA would have already have run our first event and be holding our annual AGM to welcome new parents and plan events for the rest of the year. In the current situation this is obviously not possible so you haven’t heard much from us so far! Sadly we are currently not planning any in person events until 2021.
We do still need keen volunteers!
- We are looking for people to join the committee, we are currently in need of a Chair Person and a Secretary.
- We also still need Class Reps for each class (ideally 2 per class). For those new to Christ Church, Class Reps attend PTA meetings (1 evening a month in normal circumstances), help us to communicate about events to members of the class (set up a whatsapp group or email list), help us run stalls at events, organise cake sales etc. Again please let me know if you are interested or have agreed with your class that you are Class Rep.
- All parents and teachers at Christ Church are automatically members of the PTA but if you wish to be included on the PTA email list please let me know.
For all of the above please email me at [email protected]
Watch this space for details of virtual meetings and fundraising options in the next few months.
Thanks
Josey (PTA Treasurer)
