We are very proud of all of the children as they have listened to what they have been asked to do and are working well together in their bubbles. They were very sensible when we practised our fire drill on Thursday.
The sunshine has been a bonus to help the children have time outside to play in their designated bubble areas of the playground. Each year group will have a turn during playtimes on a piece of large playground equipment on timetabled days.
We are fortunate that our school site has many entrances and a big playground space that parents/carers can wait in outside the classrooms. Please keep your children with you and leave the school grounds once you have picked up/dropped off your child. The playground equipment is not to be used at these times. Please be mindful of other parents/ families on the walkway and steps outside 2KH and 1CB as this is a narrower area at drop off/ pick up.
Next week when more of the Reception children are attending we will also open the ‘Jack and the beanstalk gate’ by the mud kitchen that leads directly into the Reception outside play area. This gate could be used by parents/carers collecting/dropping off a Reception child.
The dining halls are very calm and organised, there is lots of happy chatter as the children eat their lunch in their year group bubbles. Shine staff are supporting our play zones outside along with school staff. Inside there are always member of the school leadership team, teachers and teaching assistants as well as our lunch time staff. The children have plenty of time to eat their meal before they go outside to play or return to their classes. If your child is not eating their packed lunch the team can encourage them to do so.
Your child will have 2 PE sessions per week (as indicated in the timetable below)
On the days your child has PE, they should come to school wearing their PE Kit. This should be appropriate for the weather. Children should not bring their uniform to change into.
PE Kit;
- Trainers
- Shorts / Tracksuit bottoms / skort
- PE t-shirt
- School Hoodie
On a Friday morning one Year 6 class would normally go swimming, however the University pool has not reopened. Both classes will instead do PE at school on a Friday morning, so should come to school in their PE kits. When swimming resumes, we will let the you know the arrangements.
Reception children will have PE on a Monday and Tuesday but SHOULD NOT wear a PE kit to school. They will start wearing PE kits in the new year.

At the start of each term the teachers prepare a curriculum newsletter detailing a summary of the curriculum to be covered in each subject for the term. These will be issued on 18th September.
At the start of each school year the teachers provide a presentation about the curriculum, classroom routines and expectations for the year ahead. Each year group will provide an audio recording of the presentation and following that parents/carers will be able to send any further questions they may have. These will be available week commencing 21st September.
The teachers have appreciated meeting parents/carers at the classroom doors, before half term they will be offering telephone appointments in order that parents/carers can hear how the children have been settling in to their new classrooms and how they are progressing with their learning. Further details to follow.
Thank you to all the families who have returned reading books. If you have any reading books at home please can you return them to school.
Your child’s class teacher is in the process of hearing your child read. They will also be looking at the levels based on the reading assessments that are taking place in school. You may find that your child’s level changes as we assess and ensure they are reading at a level appropriate for their comprehension and phonic stage.
Following the assessment of reading we will be sending reading books home with the children from Year 1 onwards from Monday 21st September. Further information will be given about numbers of books coming home and book change days.
Please continue to use ‘Oxford Reading Buddy’ at home to support reading. For new families a log in will be sent home next week with your child.
The first homework task has been uploaded today onto Google Classroom. A quiz has been dropped into your online classroom. It is a short quiz to learn more about your child(ren)’s reading; whereabouts do they enjoy reading, any favourite authors and what genre they like.
The task will not take long at all, but it will have many benefits;
- Prompt conversations at home with family members
- To further celebrate reading within the classroom and school. Reading corners?
- Help families familiarise themselves with Google Classroom
- Allow the school to support families who do not have access to Google Classroom
Enclosed within the end of year school report (July 2020), was your child’s school Google email and password. The majority of pupils have logged into their classroom (amazing), however we can see that some have not.
If you find you have lost your login details, then don’t worry, we have them all on record. You can tell your child to ask the class teacher, or send an email to the school office.
Please see atatched letter with more information on Google Classroom:
Reception have enjoyed coming into school for the first time. They have enjoyed exploring their classrooms, playing outside and meeting new friends. Well done reception children and thank you to the parents and carers for your support with dropping children off and transition.
Year 1 The Boy who lost his Bumble
Year 1 have made a fantastic start to the new school year! We enjoyed reading our new story ‘The Boy Who Lost His Bumble’ and created some bumble bee finger painting art. In PSHE, we have been talking about how to manage worries/ fears and made our own worry monsters. We had lots of fun making them and we’re really pleased with how they turned out!
We had some visitors in school this week. A team of tree surgeons came in to remove some branches that had fallen down over the summer. They were super friendly and took the time to talk to the children about what they had been doing.
2RD have been studying Place Value this week using beads to divide two - digit numbers into tens and ones. Well done for all your brilliant Maths work!
2RD have been reflecting on what they are grateful for during our PSHE Jigsaw lessons. We created a 'what I am grateful for' jar and thanked the people who help us to stay safe and happy.
Year 2 have enjoyed painting self-portraits with watercolours this morning. The art galleries they created in the classroom were a joy to wander around!
We have had a wonderfully productive week settling into 3ED! We have spent time getting to know each other by creating ‘All about me’ cubes and bookmarks showing our favourite things. After such a long time away from school, we had a spelling and grammar bonanza this week, so are feeling confident to write fantastic sentences! We have also had time to reflect and talk about some of our feelings about returning to school after lockdown. Can’t wait for another brilliant week!
Y3ED did a Fitness session this morning. They completed 4 mini Tabatas, 4 rounds of 20 seconds of work followed by 10 seconds of rest. They did mountain climbers, skaters, lunges and planks. They all worked really hard and some took the lead in stretching and warming up. Well done Y3!
Year 5 celebrate returning to school!
This week we have completed a course of Jigsaw lessons that have encouraged us all to focus on our changing emotions, how we can regulate these and have positive interactions with our friends whilst remaining healthy and safe.
Here are the Haiku poems that children created to celebrate being together with their class again.
We have celebrated the new school tool, Google Classroom, by using it in our Class Assembly. Children have shared extra-curricular achievements, interests and hobbies.
Emilie shared photos of her equestrian achievements. Here she is dressed as Dorothy for a competition.
Arman shared his experience of seeing some dolphins and whales whilst on a boat trip as well as sharing plans for his next sea-faring adventure!
Leo talked about his Aunt that is an artist and how he has enjoyed taking on some art challenges whilst at home. Here he is sharing a picture of his certificate that he received for sending a piece of Art, that is now on display, in the British Library in London.
