Another action packed week for our ‘bubbles’ in school and we can see you have been busy at home- thank you for sharing your achievements.
The second half of our Year 6 children had their last day in school yesterday. Whilst the children have not experienced the usual leaver’s rite of passage Mrs Williamson and Mrs Derrington had a very creative and enjoyable week reflecting upon the children’s journey at our school. We wish the children and their families’ well, as they prepare for their next steps. It wasn’t the final send-off though, as there are still some mementoes for the children to arrive.
School reports/parent teacher telephone calls
We know the school reports have started to arrive in the post because we are excited to see that some of you have already logged into Google Classroom. The class teachers will be starting to upload messages and activities onto this platform as we trial it over the coming weeks. Please contact the school office if your child’s report does not arrive by end of Monday 6th July.
The class teachers will begin phoning parents/carers from 6th July as detailed on the Google form sent via parentpay on 1st July, please complete this if you would like a call. Teachers will start their calls from 9.15 am, if you miss their call don’t worry they will keep trying until they manage to contact you. This a 10/15 minute call similar to parents evening to discuss your child’s report.
Shuffle Up
Within the same Google form is an invite to a Shuffle-Up session w/c 13th July. We will send session times out via email next week with further information about drop off/pick up arrangements. Children will need to wear their school uniform or school P.E kit- trainers will be fine as I expect everyone will have grown!
School Website
Before the pandemic we had already begun the process of changing our school website provider. The launch of SZapp was the first stage of this. At the end of this school year we will be launching our new school website. Due to the current situation there is no good time to be doing this and we hope we will be able to start the new school year with our online platforms all in place.
Please note: if you would like any of the homelearning materials to dip into over the Summer you will need to download these before the end of this school term.
Here are a few pictures of the artwork that Year 6 did this week as part of their transition work. They had to think about the qualities they have that they will be bringing to their new secondary school.
Yr 1 - Signs of Summer Bubble D
We decided to celebrate summer by creating sunshine dot paintings. We drew a template in yellow pencil and then used a cotton bud and yellow, orange and red paints to carefully fill in the gaps. We’re really pleased with how they turned out!
This week we have enjoyed spotting signs of summer all around us. We also created some beautiful sunshine pictures just using dots! We were so pleased with how they turned out. They brightened up our day!
Marve wrote a super story based on Where the Wild Things Are
We have been learning about the changing seasons and went outside to look for the signs of summer. We noticed a variety of different bees in the lavender, lady birds, butterflies and trees full of leaves.
What Reception have been up to this week!
Reception watched Tim Peake as the celebrity supply teacher on BBC Bite Size and decided to launch their own rockets. Mr Lusted took us all outside to launch the rocket. It was fantastic. You could watch it at home and try and launch your own rocket.
We loved learning about the artist Arcimboldo after watching Mrs Petters video clip. We used pastels to create our own. We also wowed Mrs Richardson and Mr Lusted with our sounds to write about different vegetables.
We enjoyed the virtual challenge this week.
Alice has been growing vegetables during lockdown and is nearly ready to harvest her first cucumber, which she grew from seed!
My goodness - a cucumber. I remember seeing a documentary saying how hard they were to grow in this country. Super impressive. Miss Burley will be very proud. Mrs Richardson read 'Oliver's Vegetables' today in our story teller special - you should have a look.

Josh Woodman-Smith home learning
After reading a piece of text from 'The Boy at the Back of the Class' we discussed how the eyes can be a window to the soul. Josh then watched a video on how to draw eyes and gave it a go. Here is his picture.
Wow - this is so cool. I feel a live drawing episode of The Chronicle would work (for next year maybe).
Mr Campbell
Katherine made a ship for her Brunel project.
She enjoyed creating a picture of Max's bedroom being transformed into under the sea world and created 3 characters for Where the Wild Things Are using toilet paper rolls. She has named her character:
Cute Puff has orange eyes like fire, teeth like a crocodile & a pair of cute yellow ears.
- Candy Flipper has skin darker than the blackest night and he is wise like an owl.
Max's costume is all white and fluffy like the clouds.
Katherine this is amazing. Miss Burley will be excited to see this.
The Chronicle Team
1.Inspired by The Tin Forest by Helen Ward, Elliot has create an Volcano Island with dinosaurs.
2. Save The Rainforest poster.
3. Elliot made dinner for the whole family using the Food Pyramid to create a balanced meal. We had a choice of baguette or wraps with a different varieties of fillings - olives, salad, chicken mayo, red pepper, cucumber, cheese, chorizo, chips & curly fries.
Elliot, all I can say is, wow. You have been so busy. Such a great range of tasks. Well done.
Mr Campbell
Oscar’s Arcimboldo style portraits (RVA)
- Oscar enjoyed making faces with fruit and vegetables
Well done Oscar . This is fab. We can start an art gallery of all these wonderful pieces of work.
The Chronicle Team
Elliot’s imagination ran wild dreaming up his wild things monster!.
Thank you Elliot; this is very cool. The description is amazing! Lovely to see you and Iris in today's assembly.
Mr Campbell
We have had a family project over the last 10 days to make a small area of garden and paving in our basement lightwell, outside Martha and Dougie's bedroom.
Martha has been a brilliant help in all aspects, clearing it of slugs, snails and frogs, putting paving down and helping to select and plant some new plants.
She wrote two sentences a day in her best handwriting describing what we had done. Excellent work Martha, we are very proud of you!
So cool from the Brown family. Such a great idea. Extraordinary what you have cleared. Mrs Richardson and Miss Holland will be very impressed. We look forward to seeing the progress of the plants.
The Chronicle Team
We are so proud of Dougie! Completing his literacy tasks every week has been a real challenge. He has done brilliantly this week, thinking of some great questions and answering them creatively. Brilliant work well done!
I have sent this on to Miss Holland, who will be so proud Dougie - amazing!
The Chronicle Tea,

Joe made a face this morning from fruits and vegetables.
This is very cool Joe - another super creative piece of work.
The Chronicle Team
Money Challenge - Felicity Whistance 4LC
Felicity has really enjoyed her maths home learning over the last week- the white rose work sheets on money and the money challange. working through old shopping receipts and working out different ways to pay.
Well done Felicity. Maths linked to the real world. Next you will be looking for the best option in the supermarket; those tricky multi buys - are they cheaper or not?
The Chronicle Team
Penelope's 'Where The Wild Things Are' Drawing
Penelope enjoyed drawing Max's bedroom which has turned into a desert!
Wow Penelope this is so cool/ The Wall of Fame beckons.

Spanish Stop Motion Video Project
Ruby (5RB) and Saul (3HR) worked diligently to create this stop motion video of a song they have learned in Spanish about little chicks. Can you tell what the chicks are doing?
Que bien!!! Well done Saul and Ruby, I would love to share the animation in an episode of The Chronicle.
