What a wonderful ending to term 4 to gather together for our Easter Service. We journeyed through the Easter Story led by our Year 6 narrators and each year group prepared a song or poem to share. The singing was sensational and we were so proud of the children’s poise and performance. We thanked Mrs Brown and the teachers for preparing the children. Worship Council led the prayers and we enjoyed Sophie’s Easter poem. The Reception Easter bonnet parade was so uplifting, creative and colourful, it gave hope that Spring sunshine may be coming. Thank you to the Church team for a warm welcome as always.
Our PTA provided some fun last Friday evening for a Quiz night and Year 6 organised the Easter Egg hunt. Both events raising funds for our school and future events.
It’s been an incredibly busy term and we all feel vey grateful for the caring community that we have at Christ Church. The staff team have been so resilient and our partnership with parents/carers provides the recipe for success. Thank you to everyone for your contribution this term and we wish you a very Happy Easter.

Reception - caterpillars, butterflies and Easter
It’s been an egg-citing week in Reception full of chocolate, chicks and church!
There were lots of very hungry caterpillars wriggling around the playground on Monday afternoon as both Reception classes had their workshop prior to our trip to The Downs. We learnt all about caterpillars and butterflies. Anna, the workshop leader, was very impressed by our amazing knowledge! We are all a flutter & looking forward to our trip!
As well as butterflies we have also been learning all about the life cycles of frogs and chickens as this ties in with spring and Easter. Again we impressed our adults with the different facts we knew and enjoyed learning some new ones all about these animals.
Everyone got involved with cookery this week as it was an old favourite, chocolate nests! We worked well, listened to our adults and made a delicious Easter treat complete with chocolate eggs and chicks! Sweet in so many ways!
On a wet Wednesday RLB went to Watercress Farm on Belmont Estate. We had an absolutely fantastic time seeing the animals, exploring the great outdoors and getting completely covered in glorious mud! Thank you so much to all the staff and parent helpers who supported the trip. RRP can’t wait for their visit to the farm & RLB are excited for our rescheduled train trip.
The Easter Story was introduced as part of our RE curriculum. We learnt all about the true meaning of Easter and why Christians celebrate at this time of year. We also discussed what is represented by the familiar, fun and delicious Easter traditions like hot cross buns and chocolate eggs.
Reception you are such a creative bunch! Your Easter bonnets for the church service on Thursday were egg-ceptional and added some extra pizazz to proceedings! The Easter church service as always was wonderful and you performed your poem beautifully, everyone was really impressed and very proud of you! Well Done!
What a cracking week and fantastic term it’s been! Thank you all for making it so special and for all your continued support.
We hope you all have an egg-cellent Easter holiday and we look forward to seeing you in a couple of weeks, rested and ready for the start of a new term.
Year 1 - Healthy Chefs and Dancing Frogs
This week Year 1 wrapped up our topic about spring by writing nature guides for the springtime. In PSHE, we have been learning all about how to keep ourselves healthy. We each created a healthy checklist which included things like: drinking plenty of water, eating a rainbow of vegetables, talking about our emotions, exercise and a good night of sleep. Then we learnt how to make a healthy snack/ breakfast of fruit and yoghurts pots. To make them we layered oats, a variety of chopped fruit, yogurt and a drizzle of honey – they tasted delicious! Year 1 have also enjoyed being singing and dancing frogs this week! Well done Year 1 for your wonderful performance and all your hard work this term.
Year 2 finished their fantastic sewing projects with Mrs Williamson this week. They have worked so hard on their creations and have developed patience and resilience when things don’t always go to plan!
This week, Year 2 have become reporters and written fabulous newspaper reports about the first moon landing. First we looked at newspaper articles to find out what makes a good one and then used what we had found out to write our own. We even had quotes from people who were there at the time, including Mrs Armstrong.
What a busy term we have had. The children have loved learning about space, especially the moon landing.
We hope they all have a wonderful holiday and get plenty of rest ready for another busy term.
Year 3 - Centipedes, spiders, ladybirds, slugs, snails and bees!
We have made it! What a crazy term 4. We are SO proud of our year 3’s and their unwavering hard work, happy and generally wonderful attitudes! As ever, we have kept everyone busy until the final minute.
After a few scientific weeks of rocks, soil and outdoor learning, a special mention to Marek for extending his science learning and treating some of 3ED to a wonderful experiment.
We were also lucky enough to have another outdoor workshop this week. This was focused on mini beast, habitats and food chains and although the weather was a little sad, we still manage to find all sort in our outdoor classroom. Centipedes, spiders, ladybirds, slugs, snails and bees!
As we are nearing the Easter holidays, we thought it would be a great time to indulge in some Easter crafts. We have used watercolours to paint spring landscapes and themed paper to create 3D egg decorations. Have a wonderful and restful break year 3. We are looking forward to seeing you in Term 5!
In Maths Year 4 have been working on decimals and consolidating their understanding of tenths and hundredths. In Literacy we have been writing and publishing our letters imaging we are Hector writing an apology to his teacher Mrs Vergara.
On Friday, we had a special visit from Avon Gorge and Downs Wildlife Project. We looked at lots of native Bristol flowers and then explored all the wonderful colours and plant varities in the school playground. We were all amazed at how many different colours and species we could find! We're already looking forward to our visit to the Downs!
Year 5 - Beggar Bush in the spring sunshine
Year 5 had a fantastic time at Beggar Bush on Monday, enjoying the Spring sunshine. The children had a chance to whittle their own tent pegs, take part in some problem-solving team building games and build shelters with Mr Curry. It was great to see so much team work going on, especially in the run up to camp. Back at school, we have concluded our book The Adventures of Odysseus which has been thoroughly enjoyed.
We have been creating scoreboards in computing, resulting in some very competitive ‘rock, paper, scissors’ championships! We have loved seeing all the amazing efforts from the recipe project homework, well done one and all!
Year 6 - Easter experience and Egg hunt
On a wet Thursday afternoon, our lovely Year 6 team put on their Easter Hunt fundraising event. In total, 167 children took park - braving the rain (and in some places, mud) to solves the clues and crack the case! A special mention goes out to our 3 lovely Year 6 girls who stayed until 5pm to help organise the event, to Miss Barsby for her egg-sellent clues, and a huge thank you to everyone who took part to support our event.
Year 6 also enjoyed learning about Easter at the Church.
What an amazing final for our Year 6 girls.
After competing for weeks, the big (rainy) day arrived. The girls played incredibly and won all 4 games! The final match was nail biting and had to go to extra time at 1-1. In the last few seconds the opposing team scored and we earned extremely well deserved silver medals. Not only that, the whole team were supportive, encouraging and laughing throughout. What a fantastic way to end term 4.
Congratulations Christ Church Girls football team!
Quiz night – thank you to all who took part

In Monday morning’s assembly, we looked at the importance of reducing food waste. One astonishing fact is that ‘just one-quarter of the food we currently waste could be enough to feed all undernourished people in the world.’
As the week went on, our Super Agents continued to work on Mission Reduce Our Waste, by focusing on the amount of food thrown away in the lunch hall. The motto that can be heard in the hall is;
‘In the Belly, Not The Bin’.
Thank you to our kitchen team from AiP for being great partners on this mission. The Super Agents were dishing out the praise to children, who had worked hard to finish their lunch.
One of our new Missions next term will be looking at what makes a healthy packed lunches
Thank you everyone for making that extra effort to travel actively over the past 2 weeks for Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel, especially with the wet weather recently. As I write this, our Super Agents are crunching the numbers and they will share the data after Easter. Early indications are that approximately 85-90% of our children actively travel to school.
Mission Cl.A.S.S will continue to encourage active journeys to school, and especially encouraging children to park and stride, avoiding our school streets; this will help keep our children safe.
Last week, Reception had their own mini festival of wheels - have a look at their video;
Have a lovely Easter
