Farewell Year 6
Half of our Year 6 children had their last day in school yesterday. Whilst the children have not experienced the usual leaver’s rite of passage Mr Eades and Mrs Brown aimed to provide an enjoyable week reflecting upon the children’s journey at our school. We wish the children and their families’ well, as they prepare for their next steps. It wasn’t the final send-off though, as Year 6 will have class zoom call and a time to collect their hoodies and class photos.
Well done and thank you to this week’s Reception and Year 1 bubbles for following the guidance to keep us all safe. It was perhaps the hottest week so far this year in school- you all did well to keep your cool! Have a look at the photos to see what we have been getting up to.
Save the date!
Please see the update to term 6 arrangements letter providing further details about the coming weeks. It provides information about a ‘Shuffle-Up’ visit to school for all current children in Reception to Year 5. This will be an opportunity for the children to close the year with their current teacher and look ahead to September with their new teacher. The children will also see where their new classroom is. This will replace the teacher/child phonecalls but any child unable to visit for a face to face catch up will receive a call.
Activities for the weekend
It is the point in the year when we are usually visiting Beggar Bush and practising for Sports Day. The Chronicle episode on Thursday saw Phoebe MacGregor demonstrating the 5/5 Challenge; simple P.E activities to do at home, children could invent their own. Please show/ tell us what you have been doing for us share on SZapp.
If you are missing Glastonbury this year-have a go at these Glastonbury at home activities.
The KS1 Bubble have had a brilliant week with lots of fabulous learning.
They worked hard as authors in literacy and were able to innovate the story of Where The Wild Things Are by changing the setting and the characters of Max and the Wild Things. They used story maps to help them think of the sequence of events and then designed their very own front covers.
They have also reflected on their time in school at the moment and how it has changed. They had a go at acting as news reporters and interviewed each other about their experiences during lock down both at home and at school.
This week in Science Year 1 have been learning about the lifecycle of plants. We looked carefully at what seeds need to grow. We planted our very own sunflower seeds and we cannot wait to watch them grow!
In school this week Year 1 have been very busy with our creative tasks as well as our literacy and maths. On Thursday we looked carefully at the illustration from Where the Wild Things Are where Max’s bedroom has transformed into a forest. We then thought about what other settings would make magical places to visit. We each created our own paintings of these fantastic settings. Some of us chose a desert, some chose underwater and the rest created a polar landscape painting. We are very proud of our artwork and wanted to share it with you, aren't they fantastic?!
The KS2 key worker bubble had a lot of fun completing a photography project this week (credit to Mr Eades). The children chose Nature as a theme. They had to take 10 pictures of Nature, wide angles and close ups, animals, insects, plants, trees… Back in the classroom, they edited their best one. They all created great pictures. Here are the best ones from Dana and Harry! At home, you can complete this project too and send us your best photograph!
Symmetrical structure construction
Tom was very excited to see everywhere bear with a tractor this week. He came up with the idea of this structure and symmetry must have sunk in from last week, he talked about the cushions making it symmetrical. Hope you are all well.
I love the fact the rainbow is included in the foreground.

Panda bear with bamboo from Tom RRP
Tom - this panda will go wonderfully next to Lucius' Polar Bear on our Wall Of Fame.
DT- Home Learning Felicity Whistance
Felicity has really enjoyed the D.T home learning. We have been busy learning the food triangle, planning healthy meals and unhealthy meals. We enjoyed looking in the fridge and larder for supplies listing all the foods in the correct food group.
Thank you so much Felicity for this. We will be looking for pupils to join The Healthy Planet Healthy School team when it resumes.

Eco War-Rhea - Healthy School Healthy Planet
Rhea was interested in gardening during this lockdown. She was not happy about buying new pots as she said we should try and do it with what we have at home to reduce waste. She started saving all the milk cartons and as soon as we were able to find some soil she started her project. She planted lettuce, basil, chives and spring onions.she made the most of the plastic bottles. After turning them into plant pots she used the balance bits to make spades to scoop the soil and labels to label the plants. She was very proud of her work.
Rhea - this is absolutely amazing - you will be in the all new Hall of Fame slot tomorrow in the live episode of The Chronicle. Well done.
